Not only is February for Valentines, it is BPW Foundation Month. For the last 55 years women across the country have celebrated the work of Business and Professional Women’s Foundation during the month of February. We hope that you will make a contribution to assist us as we continue our unwavering commitment of advocating on behalf of working women, their families and women veterans.
During the past year, BPW Foundation has been active on the front lines of several hot button issues affecting the lives of all working women. Here are just a few highlights:
- With your help, advocated for the successful passage of the Small Business Jobs Act of 2010 to benefit women small business owners.
- Testified before the Senate Committee on Health, Education, Labor and Pensions (HELP) in favor of the Paycheck Fairness Act. The House of Representatives passed the legislation but the Senate did not. BPW Foundation will continue working on behalf of fair pay for women.
- Held focus groups around the country with over 50 women at three major corporations to capture the beliefs – and perceptions – of Gen Y women. Watch for the results of this research that will be published soon.
- Convened national employers, high-ranking government officials and women veterans at a National Inaugural Summit, Joining Forces for Women Veterans, to find solutions for women veterans as they transition back into the civilian workforce.
- Partnered with four workforce training sites across the country to train women for green jobs. As a result, BPW Foundation helped recruit 250 women into green jobs training; 51 completed training; and 34 women secured jobs.
- Developed a toolkit for AARP for use by their Senior Community Service Employment Program to help introduce and train mature women for jobs in the green economy.
- Cheered the Small Business Administration’s (SBA) long awaited release of the final Women’s Procurement Program allowing contracting officers to restrict competition to women-owned small businesses. With your unwavering support, BPW Foundation worked long and hard for the release of these regulations.
